O. Henry Museum

Austin home of William Sidney Porter, who became famous as a short-story writer under the pen name O. Henry. This Queen Anne-style cottage has since been restored and now contains artifacts and memorabilia from Porter's life in Austin.

National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame

Dallas Museum of Art

A hundred-year-old museum that features 23,000 art pieces from around the world. It also hosts many special events and exhibits, many of which showcase the best that the Southwest has to offer. The Amon Carter Museum

Houses the collection of western art amassed by philanthropist Amon G. Carter, Sr. Paintings included are from 19th-century landscapes by Hudson River School painters, New Mexico paintings by Georgia O'Keeffe, scenes of the West by John Mix Stanley and Albert Bierstadt, etc. Also has extensive collection of photographs from the West.

Buddy Holly Center

New Mexico

National Hispanic Cultural Center

Palace of the Governors

Pueblo Grande Museum

Sensing Dobie's Shade: The Al Lowman Collection of J. Frank Dobie Publications in the Southwestern Writers Collection at Texas State University-San Marcos has been published in a limited edition of 100 copies.

 

Lonesome Dove Revisited
 

 
The Southwestern Writers Collection presents an ongoing exhibit that features props, costumes, photographs, and other items from the making of the CBS miniseries. The new Lonesome Dove Room opened Oct. 13, 2007, with even more “making of” materials on permanent display. Discover more about the Lonesome Dove Archives in the online exhibit.
